The Springs Resort & Spa, Arenal: What to Expect

The Springs Resort & Spa is one of the most complete luxury resorts in the Arenal valley. Set on a 165-acre estate with natural hot and cold springs, it combines a volcano setting, sophisticated dining and a range of accommodations that suits couples, families and groups. Where some Arenal properties focus on intimacy, The Springs offers scale and variety, with everything from romantic rooms to large private villas. This guide explains what the resort offers, how to choose the right accommodation and how to plan a stay.

The setting: hot springs and the volcano

The resort sits in the Arenal valley near La Fortuna, with views of the Arenal volcano from most rooms. The estate includes natural hot and cold springs, gardens and forest. It is a place built around the landscape: the baths, the terraces and the paths are designed to take advantage of the volcano and the rainforest. You will find details on our The Springs Resort & Spa page, and background on the area in La Fortuna.

A wide range of rooms and villas

The resort offers 21 categories of rooms, suites, bungalows and villas. The Vista Alta Vista Guest Rooms are around 67 square meters, with a volcano view from the king bed. The Honeymoon Vista Rooms add a private spring-fed jacuzzi on the garden terrace. For families and groups, the two- and three-bedroom Springs Suites, such as the Junior, Aracari, Oropendola and Premier suites, range from roughly 100 to 240 square meters. At the top of the range, the bungalows and villas, including Palm Bungalow, Villa Guayaba, Villa Calatea, Falcon’s Nest and Villa Palacio, offer up to five bedrooms, with private pools in the estates.

On-site adventure

The Club Rio Adventure Center on site offers excursions and activities in the surroundings, which allows guests to organize days of rafting, hiking and wildlife without leaving the property. This is a major advantage for families and for travelers who like activity during the day and comfort in the evening. Ask about current options and conditions when you request your dates.

Who it suits

  • Couples who want a romantic stay with hot springs, and may choose the honeymoon rooms.
  • Families who need space and a variety of activities.
  • Groups and multi-generational parties who can use the suites and villas.
  • Wellness travelers who value spa and hot springs.

Dining and spa

The resort offers sophisticated dining and a spa, as well as the springs themselves. Because menus, hours and treatments change, confirm the current program when you request your dates. Many guests plan one special dinner and one spa day, and spend the rest of the time on excursions or at the springs.

The Springs or Nayara Springs?

Both resorts are in the Arenal area, but they offer different experiences. Nayara Springs is adults-only and focused on privacy and villas with plunge pools. The Springs is larger, with more categories and more options for families and groups. If you are traveling as a couple and want maximum quiet, Nayara Springs may be the better choice. If you travel with children or a larger group, The Springs may be the better fit. Our luxury resorts page shows both.

Getting there and how long to stay

The resort is around two and a half hours from San José (SJO), a comfortable journey with a private driver. Three to four nights allows time to enjoy the springs, take a few excursions and relax. Many travelers combine Arenal with a beach week. See our 7-day luxury itinerary for a way to do it.

Insider tips

Book rooms with volcano views early, as they are the first to go in the dry season. Ask about the best time to visit the springs, as early mornings and evenings are quieter. Pack layers and a rain jacket for the forest, and bring comfortable shoes. If you are traveling for a celebration, tell the team in advance so they can prepare. For holiday periods, confirm minimum stays and rates, and read holiday rates and minimum stays.
